How to look and feel good in brand videos (FREE video content theme planner included)
Prepare to talk about your business with confidence
Talking about your business or charity on video can end up being much harder than you’d anticipated. Where you perhaps thought you’d be able to just reel lots of value off the top of your head, suddenly when you know the camera’s rolling it’s easy to become incredibly self-aware and self-conscious;
Are you struggling to know what to say?
Are you clamming up as soon as you push record?
Are you worried about looking (or feeling) awkward on camera?
Planning your content theme will keep you focussed and relaxed
Whilst you might want to share everything you know and love about your business in one go, in our experience that’s a big mistake. You’ll feel very overwhelmed and let’s face it, you’re going to confuse your audience!
Instead, prepare one specific content theme or subject focus and explore the many ways you can talk about that one topic across a series of short, promotional video content. Taking a focussed and consistent approach like this will help to make the process much easier for you to record and much more effective in connecting with your customers.

Understand your audience
First of all it’s important to understand your audience, and we mean really understand them:
Who are they?
What problem are you solving for them?
What’s important to them?
How will you help to transform their lives?
It pays dividends to really get to know your audience well; you might even consider creating an MPC (‘most valuable client’) profile.
Because when you know what they’re struggling with, then you know what’s going to resonate most and therefore be the most valuable content to prepare and share in your talking head videos.

To script or not to script?
We’ll keep this short; don’t script.
Why?
Because unless you’re a paid professional, reading out scripted content to camera will make you sound like a disingenuous robot!
Instead, you might want to prepare content prompts that you can use to keep you focussed on the key details. Or alternately - if you have a trusted friend or colleague close by - you could have someone ask you questions. Framing your prompts as a series of informal questions will encourage you to open up and talk from the heart. That’s how you’ll deliver narrative that your audience will love to listen to.
Here are a few more suggestions to help you look and feel good on video:
Take your time, you’re not talking live so there’s no pressure
Keep your eyes on the camera
Position the camera at eye level
Make sure it’s quiet and tidy around you
And smile!
